Separated from Long Island by the Great South Bay, Fire Island National Seashore is a United States National Seashore that protects 25 miles of the 30 miles that make up Fire Island, a barrier island. There are 17 communities that make up the Fire Island National Seashore. The Robert Moses Causeway and Smith Point Bridge are the bridges that lead to Fire Island though the island contains no public roads itself. The seashore can also be accessed through private boat and ferry. Attractions on Fire Island include the Fire Island Lighthouse and Sailor’s Haven which offers a 1.5 boardwalk trail. Various types of boating are very popular in the area as is fishing, and hunting.
