Accessible only by Sayville Ferry or private boat, Sailors Haven is a family beach on the Fire Island National Seashore. A major attraction at Sailors Haven is the Sunken Forest, which is a one and a half mile long boardwalk that snakes through a 300 year old holly forest; the only of its kind of the East Coast. “Sunken” because it rests below the dunes in between the dunes and the bay. Those who walk the trail will be witness to the wonders of Sailors Haven’s natural habitat with a variety of trees, shrubbery and wildlife. Sailors Haven has a snack bar, gift shop, and several picnic and barbeque areas. This beach also offers a 45-slip public marina with electricity, water and a free boat pump-out station.
